Physiotherapy

As leading Auckland physiotherapists we are committed to your recovery from injury back to full strength and health

With more than 40 years physiotherapy experience, we offer a complete physiotherapy service to alleviate pain and rehabilitate musculoskeletal conditions with the aim of preventing them from reoccurring.

Research and experience has proven better outcomes with a higher pain-free success rate if rehabilitation commences early if treatment.  At Bodyreform we aim to begin rehabilitation work as early as possible.  This starts within your first treatment session.

Physiotherapy Treatments

At your first appointment, we will assess your injury, work towards diagnosing the pain generator and pin point the cause.  We will discuss the most appropriate course of treatment, which may include

  • Physiotherapy assessment of joint, muscles and nerves
  • Real time utrasound scans muscles contraction quality, timing and endurance (specialist service in Auckland)
  • Physiotherapy manual therapy techniques
  • Physiotherapy progressive exercise programmes
  • Clinical Pilates sessions to improve your core strengthen and stability.
  • Assessment may require further x-rays and formal ultrasound scans.
  • If required, we can also arrange an appointment with a sports physician or specialist.

Muscle pain:  Pain switches muscles off very quickly, so if you suffer from knee, hip or shoulder pain, you can count on the fact that your muscles will start to weaken, which will, in turn, and make your problem much worse.

Muscle memory: The most successful joint replacement candidates or people with moderate pathology are people who strengthen their joints right up until their surgery date. Muscles have a memory, so when it’s time to get moving again, they remember what to do – that’s why strengthening your body prior to surgery will help you accelerate your post-surgery rehabilitation.

Physiotherapy Appointments

  • Depending on your individual requirements, you may require between one and three appointments per week.
  • Appointments run every 30 or 60 minutes, to ensure we have enough time to accurately assess and treat your physio needs, as well as assess your rehabilitation progress.
  • We offer physiotherapy treatments both privately and under ACC.

Physiotherapy for shoulder pain

Shoulder injuries are very common and often challenging to treat.  Shoulder pain may develop from tendon strains or tears within your rotator cuff.  Cartilage within the joint may be damaged or you may suffer from a shoulder bursitis as a result of an impact or forceful injury.   Bursitis is where the cloud cushioning within the shoulder is impinged (pinched), becomes inflamed and causes pain and restricts movement. Muscle imbalances can occur very quickly around the shoulder and shoulder blade.

The weakness of the scapular or shoulder blade can often cause shoulder pain or dysfunction, which will require specific static muscle strengthening.

Our team of physiotherapists is experienced in treating shoulder pain and we have successfully helped many people recover from this debilitating problem.

Physiotherapy for running injuries

Running injuries are a common problem and are usually the result of weaker buttock, abdominal and or pelvic muscles, which put increased strain on your knee and ankle.

Your Bodyreform physiotherapist will video your running technique with aims to pinpoint precisely where the problem lies so we can begin the rehabilitation process. We will also check your running shoes and discuss options for improvement.

Our aim is to make you run taller, faster and for longer. To ensure this, we work with you to get you to the starting line uninjured and in the right shape to make sure you also reach the finishing line in the same condition.

Post surgical physiotherapy for hips, spines, shoulders and knee replacements

Research supports the stronger your key muscles are prior to orthopedic, muscle or joint surgery, the better outcomes you will have.  Improved early mobility, faster recovery to baseline and accelerated total rehabilitation time to get you back to a higher level of strength and health.

Our team can assist in your recovery using soft tissue techniques and specific strengthening regimes.  We focus on strengthening work (or pre-habilitation) prior to surgery as well as post-surgery rehabilitation.

Strengthening work or pre-habilitation prior to your joint replacement is vastly important as is your post-surgery rehabilitation of muscle and tissues following your surgery.

Physiotherapy for postural pain

Most of us have suffered or are suffering from pain and discomfort from static work related postures.  Assessing spine movement, flexibility and strength will highlight what areas require more power or strength and what areas require flexibility. Together these elements ensure better posture, reducing and or eliminating pain.  And guess what, your core abdominals are a large part of this equation.

The problem: If you regularly use a mobile phone or work at a computer, then you are susceptible to neck, middle and lower back problems.  A sustained, forward flexed posture will affect your whole spine, making your back stiffer, harder to straighten and more susceptible to injury.

The solution: We apply manual therapies and teach you the specific exercises that are essential for strengthening your key postural muscles and maintaining spinal strength and flexibility.  We will also review your work station and chair and provide the necessary aids to make your work space more comfortable.

Physiotherapy for the elderly

Are you losing your balance or falling?  Physio’s at Bodyreform can help you build your balance and improve your walking pattern and speed, so you can enjoy life to the full again.

We have had a number of clients in their late 70s and 80s who practice Pilates under our supervision and guidance.  Pilates training is excellent for strengthening your core and buttock muscles which are paramount for good posture and balance.  As a result, our clients enjoy increased agility, improved mobility, and experience fewer falls. They are still exercising, playing golf and travelling overseas!

ACC Referral

Bodyreform is ACC Physiotherapy registered, so we’ll take care of the documentation for you.  No referral is required, so all you need to do is pick up the phone, send us an email or book online – whichever is easier for you.
